Though off-topic, this is certainly timely. I rarely comment on politics, and so my comment here is short. Regardless of who I may favor as nominee for President, and no, it won't ever be Phil Rosedale, I'm astonished, in shock and awe about the news coming out about Hillary Clinton and her campaign, because in part, I've now been personally "touched" by their tactics.
Yesterday's news announced her campaign owes some $8.7million dollars to unpaid providers of services, etc., to her campaign and they are near out of money. As most know, I reside in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and in that little borough, some of my clients own an office building. They were contacted by the Clinton campaign to "rent" the first floor, which was to begin about a week ago, and terminate on April 23, 2008, immediately after the primary.
The campaign coordinators had acquired information about the rental from a real estate agent, to whom a commission would have to be paid if they leased the property. The rental rate was to be $1,500.00 per month. Accidentally, two of the campgain's representatives bumped into one of the owners out front of the building in the rain, and at first mistakenly took her to be the "cleaning lady".... in any event, one of them suggested that since it was her building, if they dealt directly with her, they'd not have to pay the real estate commission, a paltry $225.00.
When later they were confronted with this position, one member claimed it was never said, essentially accusing the partner of making it up. During the final inquiry of terms for the lease, the representative inisted that since the property was empty, the owner should lease it for $1,500.00 for six weeks, instead of for one month, which was refused. At that point the negotiations ended.
So what to make of this silly little circumstance? Does this country really want or need a president that can't account for why it bargains unethically, why it nickel and dimes its possible constitutency, and that runs a campaign in the deep negative?
